Cycle the Otago Rail Trail

Deep in the South Island is the region of Central Otago. This region holds the driest climate in the South Island. Featuring a vast brown landscape, snow-capped mountains, crystal blue rivers, deep gorges and tussock-clad hills. Vineyards are scattered throughout, this is where New Zealand’s best Pinot Noir is produced.

You will be cycling the famous Otago Rail Trail. A full-day adventure, cycling a section of an old 152-kilometre railway line through farmland, past rocky outcrops, lakes and historic gold mines. Highlights of the Poolburn Gorge Section include the 37-metre high Poolburn Viaduct, two tunnels, the trail's longest bridge and Central Otago’s stunning landscapes.

Depending on the wishes of you and your kids, you will cycle between 29 and 60 kilometres. Your guide will give you in-depth instructions and provide mountain bikes, helmets and a repair kit. Allow five to six hours, including a stop for lunch and drinks.
