Putt for birdie at an exclusive golf course

Wairakei International Golf Course is one of New Zealand’s most exclusive golf courses, where nature and golf blend together. Taking full advantage of the scenic Lake Taupo, the course was built right in the middle of the North Island by the New Zealand government.

With the official grand opening in 1970, this 180-hectare site of rolling countryside and native flora and fauna was designed by John Harris. A well-known golf course architect from the United Kingdom. Enjoy a round of golf and soak up the surrounding landscape.

For keen golfers, this is a course to tick off your bucket list. You can rent golf clubs, shoes and balls at the golf club. Finished your 18 rounds of golf at the championship course? There is plenty to see in the area.

Home to the largest freshwater lake in the Southern Hemisphere, Lake Taupo. Go on a cruise, try your luck with some trout fishing, go kayaking or soak in the natural hot pools. Visit the impressive Huka Falls - waterfalls in which more than 220,000 litres per second fall over the cliff into the depth.
