TravelEssence is Travelife certified. Rest assured of TravelEssence's sustainable and social business practices, as Travelife is an independently operated initiative for companies in the travel industry.

Travelife as an organisation is committed to transparency as well as sustainable and socially friendly practices, and works in close consultation with businesses to develop sustainability procedures. Being Travelife certified means that we have passed, an evaluation by an independent auditor based on an on-site assessment. The requirements are stronger than the basic requirements of the Travelife Partner standard and are in line with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria and formally Recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Requirements for certification include:

• Sustainability management & legal compliance, such as donations and ongoing monitoring of policies
• Social policy & human rights, this means fair wages, benefits and equal opportunities
• Environment & community relations, such as staff training, and water and energy usage at the office
• Partner agencies, which includes labour policies and informing partners of our sustainability policy
• Transport, which relates to types of transportation used and carbon offsetting practices
• Accommodation should be sustainable, and providers should receive clear communication of policies
• Excursions should meet local wildlife and sustainability regulations
• Tour leaders, local reps. & guides need to be qualified and provide relevant information to clients
• Destinations should support local biodiversity and prevent destructive tourism
• Customer communication & protection must be clearly provided
